Kudos to Greg Doucette for working out things with Geoffrey Verity Schofield and apologizing on behalf of his team. However, a day before this, Greg’s friend and former coach made a video simply bashing Geoffrey on unrelated, irrelevant topics. I feel like this dilutes Greg’s message (and the values of that message) in his apology video, and this was not good behavior on Jonni’s part. @JonniShreve3 years ago Great video, but you def have one HUGE mistake. I did this on my own but it doesn’t matter what i say you will believe what you want. I’m passionate about what i do.
Secondly you made points about other lifters with a round back being ok etc. It is right now...but not in the future. So that’s why I’m passionate about rounded backs being “ok’d” as I’ve done extensive research on this as i wanted to see how to prevent people from my current situation, deteriorating L4.L5 arthritis and osteophytes. It sucks.
Was i harsh 100% prob as hard as someone can call prowl they don’t know “chimps” said by GVS.
Either way man this is the first vid like this and I’m honoured but at the same time i don’t know if I’m suppose to do a response? But i said it and i stand by it. What we put out on any platform is fair game so i commend you on a great video and great response. You can only judge what you see and you did great. But unfortunately some points are very wrong but that’s just individual interpretation. Ill leave it there.
I will def say sorry to my guy GVS for being harsh he does know his shit has good information BUT i stand very strong behind performing any lift that will eventually enable beginner or impressionable lifters to lift wrong or less optimal.

@GVS3 years ago I was very, very, very nice to Jonni, despite the obvious situation being him digging, digging, digging and finally pulling up quite literally my first YouTube video ever in order to attempt to discredit me, clearly as a favor to Greg.
The other comments were less nice. The like/dislike ratio says a lot. People are not as stupid as these guys think.
Thank you for making this video.

@snwachuku3 years ago Thank you for putting this out because Jonni attempted to make it seem like anyone that disagreed with his video on GVS were somehow "loyal" to him as opposed to objectively looking at the video and clearly seeing that he made the video in bad faith. His video and Greg's apology video don't mesh, so Jonni should have left himself out of it and let Greg and GVS hash it out. He got emotional, poked his nose in and ended up looking stupid in a seriously obvious way. ... 48

@IMJJTheJetPlane3 years ago This was the main point I was trying to make. Jonni's video was posted THE DAY AFTER the drama. Why would you flex your muscle and try to keep a perfect posture when the cushions will support you 😅 old school body building is what's wrong with fitness today. @peaceman33503 years ago Even though gregs content are average at best, it was entertaining. And honestly i watched some videos . But the moment he called Enkiri a mosquito, that when i stopped watching that idiots videos. And Johnni, i started watching his videos recently, but i didnt find it interesting although he seemed a nice guy. But his video dissing Geoffrey is pure hypocrisy at best. Cause a while back he made a video criticising the bodybuilders who block people on social media just cause they couldn't tolerate criticism. And now he is defending the same type and inadvertently becoming a memeber of the same group.
After a huge gap, i started working out last December. I didnt know shit, but then i saw athlean x and started following him for 2 weeks until i saw your channel. At first i was reluctant to watch your videos, but then i gave it a try. And now, 5 months later, thanks to you, iam subscribed to Enkiri, Isratel, Barbell medicine, and few more talented and honest coaches . Your channel was a gold mine for me.
Btw, it was nice of you to bring up sean. He is also a good coach and iam currently following his workout plan with a little modification if my own.

@immersivecomics16033 years ago Jonni definitely needs to get out of Greg’s shadow. Become his own individual. He’s portrays himself as just Greg’s friend and not as himself sometimes. He’s a good guy who made a bad call. I’d argue he’s smarter than Greg and puts out pretty mediocre content. Greg recycles and plugs his cookbook because it’s his only marketing strategy. Jonni should have more integrity. I like Jonni a lot but Jesus he looked bad in this situation. Greg has been repeated called out for his bullshit but his cult like following denies any criticism and Jonni making shit like this enables it. ...

@nickmontanaro96383 years ago I'm hardly an expert, but I would agree that every person's deadlift is going to look a little different.  Human anatomy just differs from one person to the next.  How can a guy 5'4" with short legs and arms and a long torso deadlift exactly the same as a guy who's 6'5" with long legs and monkey arms but no torso?  Just from a kinematics perspective I don't think it's physically possible.  Personally, I gave up trying to deadlift traditionally and only do sumo now.  Perhaps someday I'll be able to do normal deadlifts without blowing out my lower back, but I'm not sure what the point would even be.  Is the difference really that great to be worth the risk?
There's a good video where Brian Shaw is helping Robert Oberst, who struggles with the deadlift, and he tells him to start with the barbell raised and gradually lower it as he develops the mobility to do them correctly, which takes time.  This is the opposite of what a lot of people recommend, which, to me, is the worst advice you can give.  Oh, you can't get low enough to deadlift correctly?  OK then, stand on a lift and force yourself to deadlift from even lower!  Huh?  By gradually moving from trap bar deadlifts to deadlifts on the lowest position of the power cage to deadlifts off of the Reebok step platforms to deadlifts off of a 45 lb bumper plate to (ultimately) deadlifts off a 25 lb regular plate, I managed to get myself to almost be able to do a regular sumo deadlift off the floor despite having injured my back more than half a dozen times.  I also spend a lot more time stretching the hamstrings and hips than I used to.  Like Alan Thrall says in that video, the body generally adapts; the key is to work your way up and do so gradually.

@_Aaron_G_3 years ago Jonni critiqued Geoffrey Schofield's lifting form as he does with all fitness people on YouTube. Geoffrey doesn't recommend his style/form to others, but we all know people copy and are influenced by what they see. So he isn't telling people to lift like him, but he keeps showing it and thus influencing others.
Jonni also made a separate video addressing the copyright strike right after.
I personally think that the copyright strike made by Greg or his team was unjustified, and am glad it has been removed.

@marcochavezjr91803 years ago I agree with everything here except the one thing, the way Geoffrey lifts his form definitely is not the best especially in his heavier lifts which I understand because when you lift heavier or do 1 rep Max are definitely not going to have perfect form, but when he lives heavier weight his form is definitely not good, maybe he said don't lift like him or something I am not sure I will have to check it out, but everything else I agree with. ...

@BurlyBaboon3 years ago Fuark Jonni, but I can honestly see this from Greg's perspective in that Greg's actual plan that he sells was posted in GVS's video and if people see the product for free, there's no reason they would pay for it. I still think he shouldn't have striked it since it was a custom plan, but everyone focussing on the argument that he was trying to copyright and thus silence a critique video is just a huge red herring you guys are emphasizing for dramatic purposes in my opinion as it is not the actual issue in question. Would love to be convinced otherwise. ... 1

  • @
@pizzaboythejedi29683 years ago Yeah if your profession is to lift stones then a rounded back exercise might be what you need... that doesn’t mean it’s the best for longevity.
A rounded back exposes you to lots of injuries later in life. This is weightlifting 101, we learn it in high school. For GVS to be marketing to beginner lifters and to be giving textbook wrong advice to people that can get them hurt, that’s not ok.
If you are gonna take a crap on other lifters, your advice better be pretty good. Cant get mad at the return criticism.
I agree there is nothing inherently bad about the rounded back, and if you are careful it can be fine. But for the vast majority of people it’s dangerous and should be avoided. It will eventually take away from your longevity in lifting. I’ve been injured so many times in the gym from stupid advice similar to this.
Last point: if you have to slam the weight down, you need to lower the weight. If you have to drop it then you are probably ego lifting and putting yourself at risk if injury.

@DanWeston38933 years ago Why does Geoffrey Verity Schofield get a free pass for shitty form? You think it's ok because he said his form sucks and he knows it. That is not good enough, if you put it online for people to see then no excuses call it out. Bad Form is Bad Form, period. Also someone lifting 700lbs on a deadlift is still not an excuse for bad form. If that guy was just starting out deadlifting and looked like that he would be corrected by a good coach. For all you know he gets injured all the time and his back is a trainwreck for days after lifting like that. Aren't you the guy who calls out Athlean-X for bad exercises?
